Job Overview

The Manager of Behavioral Health is responsible for managing clinical, operational and administrative operations for behavioral health services and related programs for one or more teams. Manages strategies and achievement of goals, develops team members and ensures overall operational effectiveness.

The Manager of Behavior Health supports the Crisis and Consultative Division within the Pediatric Mental Health Institute. This includes oversight and accountability for the Mental Health Emergency Unit at the Anschutz Medical Campus, our team of clinicians responsible for completing crisis assessments across all 4 Emergency Departments at Children's Hospitals, the outpatient Crisis Clinic, and will support the ongoing strategic expansion of our mental health crisis services. This position will be predominately located on the Anschutz Medical Campus in Aurora.

Qualifications

  • Education: Master's degree in Psychology, Behavioral Health, Social Work or a related field is required.
  • Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of experience in providing behavioral health services in a pediatric environment is required.
  • Certification(s): Certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for the Healthcare Provider from the American Heart Association is required at the time of hire.
  • Licensure(s): Licensure as a Psychologist, Professional Counselor (LPC) or Clinical Social Worker (LCSW) in the state of Colorado is required at the time of hire.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. Develops annual work plans used to achieve goals and performance metrics for behavioral health services and related programs. Executes plans for aligning services and programs to operational vision and related strategies.
  2. Participates in leadership activities for the division and contributes to the achievement of goals and objectives. Defines and maintains internal processes, establishes customer service standards and addresses operational and customer services escalations.
  3. Serves as a champion of enterprise-wide culture, influencing culture change to support objectives related to behavioral health services and programs.
  4. Manages communications to the enterprise on strategies, services, programs, projects and initiatives related to behavioral health. Fosters and maintains strong, effective working relationships with peers across the enterprise and within the behavioral health industry.
  5. Assigns and reviews work, provides on-the-job or formal training and develops team members. Evaluates team and individual performance, providing continuous feedback. Accountable for managing entire employee lifecycle of team, including hiring, development, performance management, discipline and termination.
  6. Participates in financial management, including, but not limited to, monitoring budgets, developing recommendations and reviewing expenditures throughout the fiscal year.
  7. Executes complex projects and provides technical expertise on programs, processes, policies, procedures and best practices.
  8. Ensures compliance with federal, state and local laws, rules and regulation. Ensures services and programs align with industry best-practices.

  • Knowledge of and ability to demonstrate subject matter expertise with behavioral health concepts, principles and methods of treatment, in addition to related standards, best-practices, laws, rules and regulations.
  • Skilled in planning, organizing and managing diversified, multidisciplinary behavioral health programs.
  • Skilled in establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with various internal and external teams, representatives and stakeholders.
  • Skilled in developing, implementing and monitoring behavioral health policies, procedures and standards of treatment.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, with all levels of team members/leaders, in addition to patients and families.
  • Ability to demonstrate success in leadership, achieving results, executing/driving work, communication, customer service and patient care.

SCOPE & LEVEL

Guidelines: Guidelines are in the form of stated vision and goals for the operation.

Complexity: Work assignment is unstructured and leader is responsible for implementing and managing a variety of objectives, resources, and initiatives to achieve the goals of the function. Duties performed include operational planning; developing standards, priorities, guidelines, processes, measurement (evaluation) systems; implementation of production and performance management standards; and allocating resources. Work is tactical and operational in nature.

Decision Making: Employee is responsible for planning, organizing, allocating resources, ensuring compliance with procedures, and achieving the objectives of the function.

Communications: Communication at this level is primarily internally focused and involves establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with team members, peers, directors, and executives. Provides guidance and interpretation of the enterprise's policies, procedures, and standards. Provides information to higher-level directors and executives.

Supervision Received: Responsible for achieving the objectives of function within the scope of established guidelines. Employee is expected to resolve problems that arise in the normal course of the work. Work is reviewed for soundness of judgment and feasibility of decisions.
