This advertisement is for a Vocational Instructor - Plumbing position located at the California Correctional Institution in Tehachapi, Kern. Please indicate the position number on your application: 054-232-2661-001.

Under the direct supervision of the Supervisor of Vocational Instruction (SVI), the Vocational Instructor (VI) is responsible for instructing, counseling, evaluating, and presenting individual education programs to assigned incarcerated persons. The instructor is responsible for supervising projects designed to apply trade knowledge taught in the program. The VI must work effectively with other instructors and correctional staff members; develop curriculum. The VI will continue educational development per conditions of employment and to fulfill credential requirements. The VI has sole responsibility for: The supervision of incarcerated persons and the security and protection of state and personal property; for reviewing and following the Code of Safe Practices for the work site; reading and adhering to all policies and procedures established by the State of California, Department of Corrections, and the Education Department at CCI; for attending necessary training and other duties as required. The VI will be fully aware of the mission, vision and services of the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR), the Office of Correctional Education (OCE), California Correctional Institution (CCI), and Tehachapi Mountain Adult School (TMAS) that are relevant to the position. The VI will maintain personal safety by employing professionalism, wearing a Personal Alarm Device, performing regular security checks of their work area and or other department sanctioned means.

Working Conditions

California Correctional Institution is located in the Tehachapi Mountains approximately 325 miles south of Sacramento and approximately 120 miles north of Los Angeles.

CCI is a Multi-level, Sensitive Needs Yard, facility consisting of three (3) facilities, encompassed within a campus style layout with varied terrain. Work in this location may require exposure to varied temperatures dependent upon the season.
