Job Purpose

We are now accepting applications for anAutomation and Controls Engineer, reporting to the Engineering Manager. This is a salaried job, so to be considered you must meet the requirements. The Automation and Controls Engineer is responsible for design, development, evaluation, analysis, selecting and ordering equipment that is most appropriate and cost effective for the manufacture of company products and systems. Oversees the installation, modification, upgrade and maintenance of manufacturing equipment/processes/systems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following and other duties may be assigned or requested:

  1. Implements PLC, Robot, and PC controlled HMI interface logic changes
  2. Provides technical support to maintenance and operations
  3. Supports production with respect to throughput, safety, scrap, quality, ergonomics, and flexibility
  4. Implements manufacturing process improvements
  5. Coordinate electrical control equipment build, installation and training
  6. Create detailed product and equipment drawings packages
  7. Check vendor drawings for accuracy
Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • BS degree in engineering or industrial technology and at least 1-3 years of experience working in a manufacturing environment in an automation engineer role or equivalent experience in this discipline.
  • Must have a demonstrable ability to:
    • Program, and debug, Allen-Bradley SLC, CompactLogix and ControlLogix platforms.
    • Develop PLC based Ethernet communications and control
    • Develop HMI applications for Panelview devices
    • Generate complicated schematics utilizing AutoCad drafting software
    • Interpret complicated, vendor supplied electrical/electronic schematics
    • Justify, plan and execute capital expenditure requests
    • Coordinate skilled labor teams in the performance of projects
    • Ability to interpret, and apply, NEC codes to an industrial facility

Preferred Qualifications:

  • A BS degree in electrical engineering and 5 year's engineering experience in a battery manufacturing facility
  • Ability to debug / troubleshoot Allen Bradly / Siemens S7 PLC programming
  • Ability to develop HMI packages with Visual Studio and Factory Talk components
  • Familiarity with Ethernet based OPC data transfer
  • Ability to debug / troubleshoot Fanuc Robot programming
  • Ability to apply DMAIC, and SPC based quality principles

Other Skills and Abilities:

  • Understanding of manufacturing procedures and operations, product design, environmental issues / regulations, control, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Proficient with programming software - RSLogix 500 PLC Programming Software; RSLogix 5000 PLC Programming Software Utilizing Ladder, SFC, and Structured Text; RSLinx for OPC Data Transfer; VB.Net / VB 2010 / Visual Studio 2010 Programming Environments
  • Additional programming software preferred - Siemens S7 Programming Software Utilizing Ladder, SFC, Control Block and Structured Text
  • Understanding of VFD and VFD controls
