Your role and responsibilities
In this role, you will provide technical expertise to ABB Motion Drive Products departments in the including product management, product engineering, R&D, sales, training, customer support and the end user. The Senior Consulting Application Engineer will need to be able to complete a power system analysis using commercially available software to create customers reports. The technical support can be done in the form of white papers, test reports, webinars and product training. The work model for the role is: #LI - Hybrid This role is contributing to the Motion Drive Products Division in New Berlin, WI area. You will be mainly accountable for: *Power system analysis using commercially available software (eg ETAP, ANSYS, SKM, EasyPower). *Ability to model, using simulation software tools, transformer configurations (Wye, closed delta, open delta, zig-zag, extended delta, corner grounded network), power quality issues around the following Harmonics, Transients (lightning, switching), Sags, Swells, Power Factor correction and Voltage distortion. *Ability to troubleshoot AC and DC drive systems and associated products (CBs, contactors, PTs, CTs, etc). Including Low voltage and medium voltage products and power systems, Grounding methods, Power quality issues, System efficiency and Interference (EMI, EMC). *Ability to create detail technical reports on product issues that need to be corrected by other departments and setup and preform product, customer, performance testing in the lab to help answer customer questions, information for Tech Notes, Whitepapers and technical training. Qualifications for the role
- Master's degree (preferably in Electrical Engineering or Power Electronics) with minimum 10 years of experience in industrial applications of AC and DC drives or Bachelor's degree (preferably in Electrical Engineering) with minimum 15 years or experience in industrial applications of AC and DC drives.
- Familiar with IEEE, UL, NEMA, IEC standards associated with LV and MV drives and systems (Preferable to have the candidate join one or more of the standards groups) IEEE 519, 1159, 1349, 1566, UL 61800-5-1, 347, 347A, NEMA MG-1, etc.
- Involved with IEEE IAS or other societies (attend yearly conferences, attend tutorials, share findings with ABB personnel, present papers and tutorials at the society).
- Ability to develop proof of concepts in the application lab. Able to prioritize, schedule and delegate individual and group assignments to ensure timely and accurate results.
- Ability to effectively present technical information to top management, peers and customers, either locally or at a customer's site.
- Team player who can work with cross functional teams, groups, divisions, countries to solve issues or provide guidance.
- Travel requirement - 10%; with One international trip per year.
- Candidates must already have a work authorization that would permit them to work for ABB in the US.
